Key Features

Obviously, size is one of the key features when it comes to a subcompact tool and the DeWalt Xtreme recip saw is pretty small. Without the battery attached, it weighs in at 3.04 lbs. It measures in at just over 12″ as well. You could just about fit this saw into your pocket, and its size will allow you into some tight spaces easily.

Thoughts on the DeWalt 12V Brushless Reciprocating Saw

The first thing we wanted to know was how close this model would be to the DeWalt Atomic one-hand saw that came out recently. On paper, they have some similarities. The 12V model is just 0.2″ shorter and its bare tool weight is only slightly lower.

It doesn’t look like DeWalt put the same pivoting shoe on this model. That’s a little disappointing considering how handy it as a replacement for a rafter hook. It also looks like they’re forgoing the belt clip.

The disappointment we’re feeling is really just an issue of being spoiled by the Atomic. It’s the only other saw we’ve seen have that shoe design. We just really like it and want to see it on more one-hand reciprocating saws.

The 2800 SPM stroke speed and 5/8″ stroke rate are identical to the Atomic, leaving open the possibility that these two saws are very similar with the exception of their power source.

Whether that turns out to be the case or not, this is a welcome addition to DeWalt’s 12V brushless line that’s looking more and more like a system that electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, and others can really benefit from.
